ADHD & Relationships: a Psychoeducation & Skills Group
Created as a follow-up to Adults with ADHD: a Psychoeducation & Skills Group, this group continues the conversation on adaptive management of ADHD in intimate relationships. Adults with ADHD invite their spouse/partner into the learning process, fostering a safe & collaborative environment to build understanding, invite accountability, & develop skills for connection.
Week 1: Understanding ADHD
Session 1 establishes a foundational understanding of ADHD, including identifying diagnostic criteria, destigmatizing symptoms, and exploring associated executive functioning deficits.
Week 2: The Relationship Impact
Couples will examine how ADHD symptoms can influence various aspects of their relationship, including communication, intimacy, trust, division of responsibilities, and overall connection.
Week 3: Disrupting the Cycle
Couples will explore and recognize cycles of conflict and dysfunction related to ADHD, initiating the process of disrupting these patterns and inviting deeper understanding of one anotherβs needs.
Week 4: Restoring Connection [Part 1]
Building on previous sessions, couples will practice implementing strategies & integrating skills to revitalize their relationship connection.
Week 5: Restoring Connection [Part 2]
Reflecting on our learning, group members will celebrate progress in reconnection, troubleshoot skills, and clarify information in this final session.
Disclaimer: While information discussed in this group explores dynamics between couples, this is not couples therapy. This group is intended to provide psychoeducation and integrate skills directly relevant to ADHD and relationships.
Dates: Beginning August 6th, meeting 5 consecutive Wednesdays from 6:00pm-7:15pm
